Cultivating the future: the conference organised by Molini Pivetti on the CAP, the market and technological innovation - Molini Pivetti

An analysis of the agronomic phase of the Campi Protetti Pivetti supply chain has revealed a reduction in emissions of around 10 per cent. This is a significant result, achieved through an integrated approach that combines the use of fertilisers with a verified low carbon footprint and the digital monitoring of soft wheat crops.

Bondeno (FE), 13 October 2026 –How can we reduce our environmental impact whilst maintaining the quality and quantity of our produce? This was the topic of discussion today at the Dillingen Multipurpose Centre in Bondeno, where institutions, experts and industry professionals gathered for the conference ‘Cultivating the Future: Agriculture between the CAP, the market and technological innovation’, organised by Molini Pivetti.
At the heart of the conference was the Campi Protetti Pivetti supply chain’s decade-long experience in analysing the carbon footprint from the wheat field to the flour.
‘Sharing data from past wheat harvests,’ said Alessandro Zucchi, agronomist and head of supply chain projects at Molini Pivetti, ‘has enabled us to establish a benchmark considered reliable, when compared with similar European initiatives.’
The analysis focused on the agronomic phase, which numerous studies indicate has the greatest impact in terms of emissions. Conducted on the soft wheat fields of Società Agricola Alberto Pivetti, fertilised with Yara Climate Choice fertilisers, the analysis revealed a reduction of approximately 10 per cent in emissions, measured in kg CO₂ eq/t.
This is a significant finding, as fertilisation has a decisive impact on the carbon footprint of every kilogramme of flour: taking action on the inputs used to grow wheat therefore means acting directly at the source.
“A large part of food’s carbon footprint originates before industrial processing, in the fields where the raw materials are grown,” emphasised Giulia Castellucci of Yara Italia during her speech. “This is why we believe that the decarbonisation of food supply chains must begin with agriculture. Together with Molini Pivetti, we have demonstrated that the use of fertilisers with a verified low carbon footprint can help reduce emissions throughout the wheat supply chain, offering food companies a practical tool to tackle the challenge of Scope 3 emissions.”.
Reducing the environmental impact remains the central objective of responsible agriculture, but it comes at an economic cost. To offset this, dedicated EU funding and supply-chain incentives are needed that can engage farmers, mills and agri-food industries.

It was in this context that Professor Angelo Frascarelli, of the University of Perugia, outlined the opportunities offered by the CAP of the future, with a view to encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices and generating value throughout the supply chain. Alongside European policies, technological innovation plays a decisive role: Matteo Brochetti, an agronomic consultant, highlighted its benefits by explaining how the Campi Protetti Pivetti supply chain has been digitised thanks to the xFarm platform.
‘We will continue to share the experience gained within the Campi Protetti Pivetti supply chain to improve the environmental impact of crops. Looking ahead, the data provided by farmers, processed on the xFarm platform, could contribute to a “certified digital carbon credit balance sheet”, to be sold on the market to supplement farm income,’ concluded Zucchi.
Upcoming measures for the Campi Protetti Pivetti supply chain include diversifying nutritional inputs, with bio-based and organic products, and strengthening the in-house production of locally sourced fertilisers.

The conference proceedings were opened with official addresses by the Mayor of Bondeno, Simone Saletti, and the Councillor for Agricultural Policy and Biodiversity, Rita Tinazzo, whilst agronomist Adriano Facchini moderated the proceedings.
