Molini Pivetti presented its 2024 Sustainability Report, demonstrating its concrete commitment to sustainable development with a view to the circular economy: over 93% of the economic value generated was redistributed to stakeholders. The second mill in Renazzo (FE) was inaugurated on the occasion: the renovation completes a multi-year investment plan dedicated to the innovation of grinding plants, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and improving quality.
Renazzo (FE), 2 December 2025 –Today saw the presentation of Molini Pivetti’s 2024 Sustainability Report, alongside the inauguration of the renovated wing of the Renazzo mill, which completes a multi-year investment plan aimed at improving the efficiency of the facilities, both in terms of energy savings and improving the quality of the wheat milling process.
Among the benefits of the new energy efficiency systems are: the installation of the Power Quality system, which has enabled a 3.5% reduction in the site’s total consumption, while the new MILL2 mill will contribute to a further 3% reduction in the site’s total consumption.
The completion of the renovation and efficiency improvement works coincides with the 150th anniversary of the founding of Molini Pivetti and testifies to the company’s constant desire to look to the future by adopting the most advanced technologies to meet market needs.
The company operates through two strategic plants: the Renazzo mill, the historic headquarters in the province of Ferrara and the heart of Molini Pivetti’s identity, and the San Giovanni in Persiceto mill, in the province of Bologna, an important production and cultural center, characterized by the works of artist Gino Pellegrini that adorn its facade.
With over 150 years of activity and five generations at the helm of the company, Molini Pivetti confirms its role as a benchmark in the Italian milling sector, combining tradition, innovation, and social responsibility in a path of constant growth. We started out in 1875 as a small local mill, and today we are proud to be a structured industrial company, recognized nationally and internationally for the quality of its flours and for a certified and transparent supply chain,” said Silvia Pivetti, Chair of the Board of Directors of Molini Pivetti S.p.A.
The data in the Sustainability Report, prepared in accordance with GRI standards in collaboration with Circularity Srl Società Benefit, confirm production growth and technological innovation focused on raw material quality, respect for the land, and carbon emission reduction.
In 2024, Molini Pivetti produced 90,723 tons of flour, while 35,547.90 tons of wheat were certified by a third party within the Campi Protetti Pivetti (CPP) supply chain in the period 2018-2024.
‘For us, the quality of raw materials is a central and indispensable element of our production model. Strengthening relations with the agricultural world and promoting the local area are strategic levers for ensuring the quality of the finished product and building an ethical, reliable and transparent agri-food system,’ said Gianluca Pivetti, CEO of Molini Pivetti S.p.A.
Campi Protetti Pivetti is a certified short supply chain model and the flagship of the company’s soft wheat production. Launched in 2016, the supply chain project involves a rigorous supplier evaluation system, with checks on environmental performance, energy management, regulatory compliance and a total ban on GMOs.
The Mayor of Cento, Edoardo Accorsi, who spoke at the opening ceremony, emphasised the importance of an Italian supply chain capable of generating value for the local area: ‘Molini Pivetti is a historic company, deeply rooted in the local area, which in a century and a half has been able to combine tradition, innovation and a strong sense of social responsibility, representing a point of reference for our local area.
The inauguration of the second renovated mill and the presentation of the 2024 Sustainability Report confirm the company’s commitment to continuing to invest in the future with a focus on the environment and quality of work. I would like to thank the Pivetti family, the management and all the workers for the contribution they have been making to our community for 150 years, representing an example of solid growth and a genuine connection with the local area. Molini Pivetti’s decision to apply the main criteria of regenerative agriculture stems primarily from sustainability objectives, based on the principles of ethics, responsibility and improvement of environmental performance as presented today. However, there is also a need to respond to market demands and, strategically, to anticipate a regulatory requirement that will certainly become mandatory. so we are moving ahead of schedule to improve performance in relation to these practices, which will be developed across the entire product, from wheat to flour,‘ emphasised Alessandro Zucchi, agronomist and head of supply chain projects at Molini Pivetti. ’Presenting a sustainability report means providing accountability, highlighting the progress that is being made in a concrete and continuous journey towards sustainability.”
The financial statements highlight responsible management of resources and the production cycle: despite a 32% increase in raw materials used, in line with production growth, the company maintained limited and monitored water consumption, thanks in part to the use of geothermal sources for air conditioning in its facilities.
Waste production decreased by 30% compared to 2023, following the completion of extraordinary interventions that had temporarily increased volumes in the previous year.
On the energy front, in 2024, the increase in consumption (+26%), linked to the full operation of the plants, was offset by the adoption of electricity from certified renewable sources for over 11,500 GJ.
Then there is the return to the local area, in support of a circular economy model. In 2024, as highlighted in the financial statements, Molini Pivetti allocated 86% of its total expenditure to Italian suppliers, with a strong presence in Emilia-Romagna, where over 60% of the distributed value remained, in accordance with the principle of circular economy.
The economic value generated during the year exceeded €105.5 million, with 93.6% redistributed to stakeholders: most of this was allocated to operating costs (95.1%). 3.3% was allocated to employee salaries and benefits, contributing to the growth and well-being of human capital. Resources for capital providers (0.4%) and governments (1.1%) reflect responsible financial and fiscal management.
Education and the local area: a growing commitment
Among the most significant social initiatives, the educational project “Adopt a wheat field” involved 728 nursery and primary school children in 2024, with 55 hours of activities dedicated to sustainability and biodiversity and, above all, outdoor experiences in the wheat field, to raise awareness among the younger generation of the value of the land and environmentally friendly production. The initiative was recognised by FICLU – Italian Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Centres as a virtuous example at national level.
In support of biodiversity, Molini Pivetti supports Savingbees.org, contributing to the protection of pollinators and agricultural ecosystems.
In 2025, the company also launched an experimental project with 3Bee, which uses IoT technologies and artificial intelligence to monitor the presence of pollinators within the Pivetti Protected Fields, opening up a scientific path for the protection of biodiversity.
The 2025–2027 Strategic Sustainability Plan
During the presentation, Molini Pivetti also announced its 2025–2027 Strategic Sustainability Plan, consisting of 20 initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This is a voluntary commitment, not required by regulatory obligations, which demonstrates the company’s willingness to report transparently on ESG results, impacts and objectives.
‘For us, sustainable development is not only a strategic lever for the growth of the company, but also an ethical duty towards people, the environment and the community,’ concluded Silvia Pivetti, Chair of the Board of Directors of Molini Pivetti S.p.A.
